Diversify your summer training with Yoga

Flexibility is under rated in hockey, most players overlook the importance of it.  I won’t get into too much detail but its important for speed, agility, pivots, and off ice range of motion in the gym as well as many other aspects.  Yoga is a good and fun way to get out of the house, meet some new people, and improve your flexibility.

Go out with your friends and give it a try who knows maybe you meet a nice girl.  Yoga is a good active recovery from a long week of training, it is also good for core training and great for balance.  I started doing yoga last summer and it helped me tremendously.  Each time after I go i feel great, relaxed and loose.

There are lots of different kinds of classes you can go to as well.  Hot yoga has become very popular, Hatha yoga is the very general yoga which is a good starting point, Iyengar is a body alignment class that focuses on holding poses for a longer period of time, and there are many, many more.

Yoga will be a nice change of pace from your tough training schedule, enjoy!Image
